Virginia Tech
A public land grant polytechnic university in Blacksburg, Virginia. Virginia Tech is well known for its programs in engineering, architecture, science, business, agriculture and athletics. Founded in 1873 as an agricultural and mechanical college, Virginia Tech continues to be one of the few public universities in the United States which maintains a corps of cadets. Roanoke College
An independent, private, coeducational, four-year liberal-arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The college is located in Salem, Virginia and was established in 1842. Roanoke College is the second oldest Lutheran-affiliated college in the United States. Go to website
Hollins University
Founded in 1842 as Valley Union Seminary, it is one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women in the United States. Hollins has since evolved into a full university with more than 1000 enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. Jefferson College of Health Sciences
An independent, private, coeducational, health sciences college located in Downtown Roanoke. Officially chartered as a College in 1982, Jefferson College is the oldest hospital-based college in Virginia. Go to website
Virginia Western Community College
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a statewide system of community colleges. Virginia Military Institute

Washington and Lee University
Founded in 1749, Washington and Lee University is named for two of the most influential men in American history: George Washington, whose generous endowment of $20,000 in 1796 helped the fledgling school (then known as Liberty Hall Academy) survive, and Robert E.
